Y Tu Mamá También

Please just admit that you are in love with your homies

Release date: June 8, 2001
Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Language: Spanish

Who should watch this movie: People who need a gentle push out of the closet. Fans of Rogue One.

When should you watch this movie: When you’re considering going to therapy. When you’re alone (it’s a bit awk to watch with other people). NOT on a plane, especially when there are children seated next to you.

The sell: Alfonso Cuarón is everything Julio Medem wishes he could be – I present this movie as evidence. Here is a movie about sex that actually tells a compelling story about growing up. The trio of leads, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna and Maribel Verdu, are a force to be reckoned with. Emotions and hormones run high in the small confines of a shitty car as two adolescent boys and a not insignificantly older woman attempt to work through their personal issues without appearing vulnerable. Cuaron thus explores gender and sexuality from two drastically different perspectives. No road trip you take will ever be the same.
